Classification and Common Product and Material Standards for Wire and Cable Inspection

2020-08-31

1. Classification of test types
(1) Type test (symbol T): According to general commercial principles, a test is conducted on a type of cable specified in the standard before supply to prove that the cable has good performance and can meet the specified usage requirements. The essence of type testing is that once these tests are conducted, there is no need to repeat them. If changing the cable material or design will affect the performance of the cable, it must be repeated.
(2) Sampling test (symbol S): Conduct tests on finished cable samples or on components taken from finished cables to prove that the finished cable product meets the design specifications.
(3) Routine test (symbol R): refers to the test that must be carried out before the finished cable leaves the factory. It should be carried out 100%.

2. The inspection during the production process can be divided into
(1) Raw material inspection: also known as incoming inspection, is the inspection of the raw materials used for wires and cables to confirm whether the raw materials meet the standard requirements.
(2) Inspection of semi-finished products: Inspection during the production process to confirm whether the semi-finished products produced meet the requirements (mainly based on the requirements of the enterprise).
(3) Finished product inspection: also known as factory inspection or sampling inspection, to confirm whether the products leaving the factory meet the requirements of the standard.

3. Other classification methods;
First article inspection, self inspection, special inspection, mutual inspection, patrol inspection, etc.

4. Composition of production wire and cable standards
Product standards generally consist of the following four parts
(1) General requirements: General - Scope, Referenced Standards, Definitions - Insulation and Sheath Material Definitions, Test Method Definitions, Rated Voltage Definition Marking Requirements, Insulation Core Identification Requirements, General Requirements for Cable Structure: Requirements for Conductor Materials, Requirements for Conductor Structures, Requirements for Conductor Properties, Requirements for Insulation Materials, Requirements for Insulation Structures and Performance, Requirements for Sheath Materials, Structures and Performance Outline dimensions of finished cables
And performance requirements.
(2) Test method: A test method that is included in the product's test method or a test item that is not included in the general test method.
(3) Specific requirements for the product: name, model, rated voltage, structure: cross-sectional range of conductors, types of conductors, types of insulation materials, insulation thickness, sheath thickness, upper and lower limits of average outer diameter, insulation resistance, etc. Provide the test items, frequency, and methods for the product.
(4) Referenced standards; Supplementary standards for product standards
